Evaluation of Dummy Shoulder Kinematics in Oblique Frontal Collisions

چکیده
ABSTRACT The present study evaluates shoulder kinematics of the Hybrid III and THOR NT, with the first version of a new shoulder design (SD-1), in 45° far-side, full frontal and 30° near-side collisions. In total eleven dummy tests were conducted in the three collision angles, while film and instrument data were generated and compared with those of PMHS data from Törnvall (2008). For the 45° far-side impact, the THOR SD-1NT dummy retained the shoulder belt on the shoulder during on-loading, as did the PMHSs, whereas the THOR NT did not. In the 30° near-side impact, the superior motion of the belted THOR SD-1NT shoulder resembled that of the PMHSs.

Evaluation of pediatric ATD biofidelity as compared to child volunteers in low-speed far-side oblique and lateral impacts.
OBJECTIVE Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of injury and mortality for children. Mitigation of these injuries requires biofidelic anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs) to design and evaluate automotive safety systems. Effective countermeasures exist for frontal and near-side impacts but are limited for far-side impacts. Consequently, far-side impacts represent increased injury and mortal...
متن کاملAssessment of Bicyclist Head Injury Risk under Tangential Impact Conditions
Although cycling may be attractive for both economic and environmental reasons, cyclists are extremely vulnerable road users and subjected to falls or collisions with cars. Therefore, wearing a helmet is of crucial and vital importance considering the high percentage of head injuries in cyclists. The present research attempts to understand the degree of protection offered by a com...
متن کاملKinematics and Dynamic Modelling of the Human Shoulder
This paper deals with kinematics and dynamics of the human shoulder in order to obtain the workspace related to the reachability of the wrist and applications to determine load for the wheelchair. The model contains six revolute degrees of freedom (D.O.F), two in costoclavicular and three in the shoulder joint and one in the elbow joint, while a six D.O.F model was developed according to given ...
متن کاملDigges 1 INJURIES TO RESTRAINED OCCUPANTS IN FAR-SIDE CRASHES
Occupants exposed to far-side crashes are those seated on the side of the vehicle opposite the struck side. This study uses the NASS/CDS 1988-98 to determine distributions of serious injuries among restrained occupants exposed to far-side crashes and the sources of the injuries. Vehicle-to-vehicle crash tests were conducted to study dummy kinematics. The NASS/CDS indicated that the head account...
متن کاملThe Effect of Hybrid Iii Lower Leg Kinematics on Loading Mechanisms and Injury
With the ever increasing survivability of road traftk accidents due to the introduction of airbags, and the proposed implementation of the new European Frontal Impact Legislation, motor manufacturers are now focusing on reducing lower limb injuries. To achieve this, there is a need to develop a better understanding of lower leg injury mechanisms, and lower leg interaction with the intruding foo...
